The good news is that this disease is not progressive and it does not damage internal organs, joints or muscles. Instead of getting worse in time fibromyalgia can get better with proper treatment.
In order to get better a patient must follow other indications besides the treatment prescribes by the doctor. The patient must be getting enough sleep as sleep can ease the pain and the fatigue fibromyalgia brings. In order to sleep well try to go to bed at the same hour and wake up at the same time every day. Before going to bed try to avoid alcohol, spicy meals, chocolate or coffee otherwise your sleep will be quite disturbed.
Even though the patient is tired and has pains, he must exercise daily to keep himself active. Studies have proven that regular exercising is good for the fibromyalgia patients and in those who can not perform vigorous exercise, gentle exercises like walking are recommended. Aerobic and flexibility exercises are also indicated to be followed along with strength training. Exercising is also good for your sleeping problems, but do not perform them with 3 hours before bedtime as they will only keep you awake and you will not sleep well.
It is essential for these patients to keep working. But many of them can not handle their usual job any more as they did before due to the pain the desk chair brings or to the fact that they have to lift heavy boxes. In most of the cases the patients leave their current job for a less demanding one or cut down the number of hours they work. There are some cases in which an occupational therapist can help the patient keep on going to the same job by designing a special desk chair or other facilities to help the patient work better and less painful.
In case the patient can not work any more due to the intense pain the job causes him, there are social societies which can help the patient in a financial way due to a Federal program which helps people with disabilities.
Some people say that they discovered a certain diet which helps them manage their symptoms better. Some patients eat only certain elements and avoid other but the most important thing is to eat healthy in order to protect your organism from other affections.
