5 Important Factors Before Buying Shea Butter
Author: Joseph Constant

As the consumer, what should you be informed about before you buy Shea butter products?

1) American Shea Butter Institute Seal of Approval: The seal of Approval proves that testing was done for the product and met the industry standards for highest quality by the American Shea Butter Institute.

2) Processing Method: (Traditional Extraction, Mechanical Extraction, or Hexane Method)

3) Color: Unrefined Shea butter is Shea butter that is pure and straight from nature. The color may vary between light gray to medium yellow. Refined Shea butter has been bleached and deodorized. The color appears very white.

4) Smell: Shea butter has a natural scent. If the Shea butter is fresh, the scent is usually stronger. Overtime the scent goes away.

5) Texture: Shea butter has a smooth texture. Fresh Shea butter is usually very soft. When Shea butter is melted under direct heat or at very high temperatures, the texture changes.
