  General Discussion About Hernia
Author: Groshan Fabiola

Hernia is a health problem that can be classified in three different categories. The first of the categories is the inguinal or in the groin hernia. The second one is umbilical hernia and the third one is the incisional hernia or at the site of a previous operation. Hernia is a problem that can be seen in both men and women. Most of the patients chose surgery for their help. This way of treating hernia is very common between its patients. Beside this possibility some people chose laparoscopic approach to hernia repair in order to reduce the pain and the duration of recovery.

This problem occurs when muscle tissues in the abdominal wall are weakening. Hernia is a painful problem with many unpleasant symptoms. The most common symptoms for hernia are bulges under the skin, extreme pain when putting some effort especially when lifting, but also in case of urinating or even after prolonged standing or sitting.

Hernia is a problem that can never self cure. In most of the cases hernia requires surgery. Even if a surgical intervention is done no specialist can guarantee that hernia will not be recurred. Its symptoms are signs that should be taken seriously. After the first symptoms it is recommended to see a doctor.

In order to repair hernia a number of procedures must be applied. The whole operation consists of the application of a surgical mesh patch to the affected area. This mesh is applied with surgical staples. A few small incisions in the weakened area, with the help of specialized video equipment and medical instruments consist to a laparoscopic hernia repair. This method has its advantages too. Most of all the time of intervention is reduced considerably. After a quick check in the hospital the surgery is done so the patients may leave the next day. Another advantage that should be noticed is less pain and scars and a shorter period for recovery.

Laparoscopic hernia repair is an effective treatment for hernia complications but it may not be that safe in cases when patients suffer from other diseases. This type of treatment is recommended for people that have developed only hernia. For others, a close watch is necessary. For example before surgery some medicines are restricted. In their category we include aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin or any other blood thinners. Talking of restrictions within 8 hours before surgery patients are not allowed to eat anything.
