There can appear atypical heart attack symptoms, and that can be experienced by both men and women.
Many times, people that experience atypical heart attacks symptoms, don't go immediately to the doctor to seek for treatment, and that can be a dangerous situation. They must go right away to seek emergency help, as soon as these symptoms appear.
It is good to know that classic heart attack symptoms affect both men and women. We can mention some of these symptoms: shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, chills, sweating, or weak pulse, a severe appearance of illness, cold and clammy skin, gray pallor. There also can appear a crushing, squeezing, or burning pain, pressure, or fullness in the center of the chest. This chest discomfort can last more than a few minutes, or it can disappear and then come back. In this chest discomfort, the pain may radiate to the neck, shoulders, one or both arms or the jaw.
In rare situations, there can appear fainting too.
Of course, not all these symptoms occur during a heart attack, but it is very important to go urgently to the doctor, as soon as you experience a symptom, because it is known that every second counts.
There was made a study, concentrated on men and women who had suffered heart attacks. The participants were most white, women were about 70 years old, and men 60 years old. Also, about 81% of the men and 56% of the women were smokers, or they were smokers in the past. There didn't exist gender differences for a history of chest pain, high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary artery disease or previous heart attacks.
The study revealed that right-side chest discomfort was 4.7 times more probable to be reported by men, discomfort 2.7 times, dull ache 3.9 times, indigestion 3.7 times, but throat discomfort was 12 times more likely to be reported by women, pressing on the chest 7.3 times, and vomiting 3.9 times. In stead, in what concerns pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, there were no gender differences.
Also, the study revealed that there was 5 times more probably that men will recognize the symptoms as being related to the heart than women. The participants to the study delayed seeking medical help for hours. Men waited about 3 hours and then went to the doctor while women waited 4 hours.
Women and men should learn to recognize their symptoms, because in these cases, time does not forgive, this is a matter of life and death. At the first sign of heart attack, you must go to the doctor right away.
